Climate and AI are no longer future concerns – they are current day issues all organisations need to respond to. They are both important and not recognising this would be a blind spot for any contemporary organisation. And as with all emerging risks (see last week’s email!), they will present risks and opportunities.
Both climate and AI are intertwined with the industrial revolution. Climate due to the level of global warming since the start of the industrial revolution – and this is also a measure used for scenario modelling in the mandatory climate reporting requirements under Australian and global regulations.
AI because the changes and impacts of it are predicted to exceed all those that have come before it since the start of the industrial revolution.
So both are going to have enormous impacts on the world as we know it – our economies, our work & workplaces, our societies and our communities.
But are they a threat or an opportunity? And what is the best approach? Some countries are attempting to regulate them, or are currently doing so, particularly around climate. In business, some are being very cautious or hesitant to even discuss or embrace these topics. Many organisations are grappling with their approach and are trying to work out where to start.
So, how exactly do we start?
Brainstorming is a recognised technique for eliciting views from stakeholders under the International Standard Risk Assessment Techniques, and this is a good place to start. These risks will continue to evolve and change, probably quite rapidly, as the outcomes and impacts evolve and change. For example, we know that global temperatures are warming, but it is hard to quantify exactly how much due to the changing inputs. So starting the conversation and hosting brainstorming sessions with your leaders and your teams is a great start point to map your way forward.
And what types of questions should we be asking?
Asking the right questions is a critical success factor in facilitating an effective brainstorming session. Want to know the types of questions you should be asking?
Click the link below at access our Conversation Starters so that you can ensure you are asking the right questions when exploring both topics with your leaders and with your teams.
