A new year is a great time for resolutions about our health and wellbeing. For business, it is also a great time to give your WHS program a health check!
The WHS regulatory landscape, coupled with expectations of our workers, customers and communities continue to evolve rapidly. There are changes to the way we work, where we work, all accompanied by numerous legislative changes requiring constant updates to our WHS programs in order to remain compliant & contemporary.
Keeping workers safe both physically and psychologically remains a high priority for all of us. So what can we do in 2026 to ensure our WHS program is contemporary and fit for purpose for our organisation and our industry?
Here’s 3 key actions you can take to give your WHS program a health check:
- If you haven’t done so in the last 18 months, complete an Audit of your WHS Program. Make sure you include consultation with workers and identify any new or evolving hazards and risks.
- Review all of the WHS legislative changes and updates that were made in 2025 – there have been a few! Update your documents and your workplace practices to incorporate these changes. Pro Tip: Check our notes below for more information on legislative changes.
- Assess your organisation’s safety culture. Is you culture proactive, focused on continuous improvement, accountability and learning? Are your ingrained practices driving the safety values and beliefs of your organisation?
Taking these 3 actions can support your WHS program and ensure the safety of your workers and others.
